The Dream
As a mom, a wife, homemaker, farmer, and business owner, life can get rather busy rather quickly. It’s easy to focus on the negative. Forget to take time enjoying the beauty of God’s creations and the things He has Blessed us with. I have a tendency to look at other pastures and think, “wow! I hope our grass is that green one day.” And some would say, “it’s okay to have aspirations and dreams.” So what’s the problem? The problem is that my dreams can easily become to have what others have. Rather than dreaming and aspiring to be what God wants our pastures to be. Have you ever given someone a gift and then they begin to compare it to gifts others have? Children do this a lot unless taught not to, but that’s a post for another day. Point is, it hurts. God gives to each of us different Blessings. How ungrateful we are when we begin to compare that Blessing to Blessings that others have. Wishing we had what they had. In fact, it’s a sin.
In Exodus 20:17 God tells us not to covet our neighbors. Ever wondered why that was a commandment? Why would God tell us not to desire what others have? Of course we know first off it’s an insult to the Most High. It also leads down a dangerous path. Anytime God tells us not to do something it’s always for our own good. So what good comes out of not wanting and desiring what our neighbors have?
Did you know when satan fell it was because he desired to be ‘like’ God. Or in other words to have what God had. When sin entered the world it was out of a desire of covetousness. Eve wanted to be ‘like’ God. Covetousness leads down a path that begins with Pride and ends with a consuming desire to strive for something that isn’t yours and ultimately ends in death.
So my encouragement to you today is be thankful. Pray for a heart of gratitude and that God will help you to cherish the Blessings that He has given you. When you want to compare just thank God that whoever that person is received a Blessing and then pray that they are grateful to The Giver for bestowing a gift upon them. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from The Father, so choose to be thankful and dream the dream God gave you.
